US Bank Center Place Chiller Change Out

Harris Service recently completed the change out of a 130-Ton Air Cooled Chiller on the US Bank Center Place building in Rochester, MN. This was a Design-Build project with Harris being the prime contractor.

Harris’ scope of work consisted of demoing one of two existing chillers and installing a new chiller prior to summer cooling needs in the building. This work involved demo and modification of existing piping and installation of new isolation valves so that the chillers could be operated independently. Harris also installed a new 410 GPM CHW pump, triple duty valve, suction diffuser and stainless vibration isolators. In addition to our scope of work, Harris subcontracted the insulation and electrical work for the project.

A challenge during the project was the location of the 9-story building in downtown Rochester. Harris provided a detailed pick plan and held coordination meetings between all parties considering safety first, re-routing of occupants and public walkways, street closures and personnel required on the roof and ground level for coordination and material handling. The pre-planning was a huge success and the day of the pick went smoothly for everyone involved with no issues.
