Sanitary Vertical Conveyor

Harris was contracted by a dairy powder processor to design, fabricate and install a conveyor system to take drink powder from a bulk hopper and elevate it to the scale of a bagger for packaging. The vertical conveyor transports the powder up at a 45-degree angle to a height of 14 feet into a hopper with a divert. The product is then diverted onto two flat belt conveyors that then transport the product to the hoppers of scale where the product is packaged into individual-sized packets. Due to FDA regulations in Wisconsin, the entire system needed to be guarded. For accessibility, Harris designed the guards with hinges for ease of cleaning.

While researching options for equipment, the customer decided on the Harris Vert-A-Con conveyor over an auger conveyor. The customer had used auger conveyors previously and were disappointed with the clumping of the powder in the conveyor, restricting flow and making cleaning difficult.

The Harris Vert-A-Con conveyor has an open cantilevered design for easy cleaning. The thermoplastic belting has ultrasonically welded side guides and flights to minimize product damage. The Vert-A-Con is designed to have all parts that touch the belt move to prevent premature belt wear. Heavy duty tubular or solid bar stainless steel frame stand up to years of rigorous cleaning processes. Clean-in-place systems make for easy, thorough cleaning.
