The Real Harris: Meet Cary Bigley

Tell us about your background. How did you get your start in the construction/service/BAS business?

I started right out of school, always had a knack for building and fixing things so the HVAC field was the perfect choice. After having spent 24 years in the field, the move into management was natural.

What drew you to Harris? What makes you stay?

I came on board during the acquisition of RMT and thought it would be good timing as the company was picking up momentum in the area. Great decision! I now work with top pick field crews and management in the industry.

What do you enjoy about working at Harris (what about the company itself made you want to work here)?

I prefer to work with larger, financially stable firms that have a long-standing business model. Not to mention the sheer amount of resources that I have with a simple phone call or email. Truly blessed.

What is the best part about your position (the day-to-day, people, a special project you were involved with)?

I am currently leading the Cannon House Project here in DC. Overcoming daily obstacles with a challenging building is satisfying but exhausting at the same time.

What traits do you think are important for someone in your role to be successful?

You have to be flexible with new technology and the ever-changing environment with construction. If you are stuck in your ways, you may be left behind.

What are your main responsibilities and initiatives that you lead?

Providing leadership and direction to the project staff and those out in the field, monitoring and securing financial stability for the project.

What are you passionate about at work?

Timeliness and attendance. Maintaining personal and project schedules are keys to success.

How do you like to re-charge?

Unplug and enjoy the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and shooting clays are true passions of mine. I shoot with Local 602 in many charitable tournaments. Just ask my Wife!!!!

What are you most proud of at Harris?

The amount of sheer talent both in the field and our leadership, not to mention our reputation!

What is one thing Harris employees wouldn’t know about you?

That I am from the Easter Shore of Maryland and was raised on a farm.

What drew you to this industry?

Buildings will always need HVAC and Plumbing so the need for qualified people will always be present. More buildings, more opportunity.

What do you wish the public knew about Harris?

All the magnificent buildings and projects that we have been involved in. Most of my work cannot be published or exposed.

What inspires you? What motivates you?

To be the best I can be both professionally, personally and making my family proud.
