UCSF Benioff Oakland Children’s Hospital

Harris was selected as the mechanical contractor for this renovation of the Benioff Oakland Children’s Hospital, largely based on our long and successful history of hospital construction in the Bay Area, as well as our ability to execute the plumbing, mechanical piping and HVAC dry components under a single contract. This 28,000-square-foot 2-story remodel and upgrade consists of a new 23 bed PICU unit supported by an on suite Pharmacy, Pharmacy Hood, PBX/Sta lab and morgue.

When coming into the project, there were unknown existing utilities not shown on the contract drawings. The Harris team contributed many hours of field investigation time to scan and map these unknowns during the BIM and build-out process. This effort resulted in maintaining the base line schedule and overall duration. There were also several hundred changes on the project and nearly 1,000 hours of T&M work, including a significant amount of off-hour work. Harris maintained diligent efforts to process the time sheets and cost submissions. This again allowed the project to maintain the schedule.
