Reagan National Airport Secure National Hall

The Secure National Hall project includes the construction of two 500,000-square foot additions to the west side of existing Terminal B-C to house passenger security screening, airline check-in, concessions, restrooms and various information kiosks. Harris will install six custom air handling units along with plumbing in the new guest restrooms. Despite the complexities involved in working in a fully functioning airport, we are slated to complete the project within schedule in 2021.

One challenge met by this project is many areas of the project within the existing airport have extensive utilities that are to remain in place. To greatly minimize the cost of relocating the existing services, Harris provided 3-dimensional modeling and coordination services based on extensive field investigations. Another challenge was the retrofit portion of this project includes complete replacement of heating and chilled water systems. Harris successfully completed the heating system replacement which was limited to the summer months when the system was not in use. Harris used a combination of hot taps, line stoppages, and prefabricated piping assemblies to perform this work.
