Miracle Mile Shops Central Plant

Miracle Mile Shops is a 1.2-mile-long shopping mall on the Las Vegas Strip. It consists of 170 stores, 15 restaurants and live entertainment venues. Miracle Mile Shops decided to add their own Central Plant due to energy rates from a Centralized Utility Plant (Westgate) that they are currently attached to. They added (3) 1,000-ton York YMC2 Chillers as well as (3) B&G Chilled and Condenser Pumps and (3) Marley Cooling towers, along with a piping system to serve their (3) main Energy Transfer Stations.

Harris started the job with existing conditions that were hard to deal with – running insulated 10” carbon steel piping through a mall parking lot with low ceiling clearance and existing utilities to avoid. We had a 3-D laser scan done of the entire parking lot and roof area where the cooling towers are located. We then used this 3-D model to design, spool and fabricate 99% of the piping installed. All 3,000’+ of main distribution piping was fabricated and sent out on racks and installed in 40’ sections. Each lift of pipe had 80’ of Chilled Water Supply and Return on it. This was made possible with the 3-D scan, CAD team using Revit, shop fabrication and field team using a Topcon geopositioning system. We were able to maximize our shop and maximize field production. As all jobs have their challenges, this made the majority of the project run seamlessly.
