Epic Data Center

The new data center, previously owned by a private client, is currently owned by Epic. Epic is a privately held healthcare software company. The data center is a 62,000 square foot two-story building that was designed to support the client’s campuses in Rochester, Scottsdale and Jacksonville. The project consisted of 3-300-ton chillers, 2 hot water boilers, 2 steam boilers, 4 chilled water pumps, 4 heating water pumps, 2-15,000-gallon fuel oil tanks, fuel oil pumps, humidifiers, plumbing piping, HVAC piping, fuel oil piping, 15 air handling units, 14 return fan assemblies, 8 exhaust fans all related ductwork.

Harris was the lead on the project to coordinate all trades in the Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the project. One of the challenging components of the project was the installation of the direct buried double containment fuel oil piping that also had leak detection ran throughout. This fuel oil piping ran from the 2 – 15,000 gallon exterior underground fuel tanks in to the building fuel oil room, from the fuel oil room they ran outside around the building over to the indoor generator locations. The project consisted of many redundant mechanical systems (air handling units, pumps, chillers, etc.) so that the building would never be without environmental controls.
